Paper towels, an apron, or a dental bib protect your clothing, and the exam room is set up with saline solution and other supplies before any lenses touch your eyes.
Each lens is cleaned and filled with sterile saline, sometimes tinted with a mild yellow dye so the doctor can see how it sits on your eye. You will look down while the doctor guides the lens into place.
Once the lens is on, the doctor checks its movement, clearance, and comfort. If the fit is not perfect, the lens is removed and a different one is tried until the optimal fit is achieved.

When the diagnostic fitting is complete, the clinic sends detailed specifications to a specialty lab that fabricates your custom lenses. Production usually takes one to four weeks, depending on complexity.
At your follow-up visit, the doctor verifies the fit of the finished lenses and rechecks your vision. You then receive hands-on instruction for inserting, removing, and caring for your lenses at home.
