Both lens types can correct vision, but gas permeable lenses are safer because they reduce the risk of corneal swelling, redness, and infection linked to low oxygen levels.

Many people still call gas permeable lenses hard lenses. If you tell your eye doctor you wear hard lenses, the doctor will likely assume you are using the modern gas permeable material.
