Scleral Lens and Red Eyes

Patient Case Overview

Patient Case Overview

This section describes the patient’s background and early results with scleral lenses.

The patient previously relied on corneal gas-permeable lenses fit in an orthokeratology style to correct his extreme nearsightedness.

About three months ago, we refit him into OneFit scleral lenses to increase stability and comfort.

With the new lenses, the patient now reaches 20/15 vision in each eye, an excellent improvement.

Persistent Eye Redness

Although vision is sharp, redness remains a concern that we monitor closely.

Clinical examination shows nasal and temporal congestion of the conjunctiva along with mild conjunctival edema.

The imaging suggests that lens edge pressure may be the primary trigger, and dryness could also contribute.

Lens Design Adjustments

We outlined changes to relieve compression and improve overall fit.

A larger overall diameter should spread the lens weight more evenly across the sclera, reducing local pressure.

Flattening the peripheral curves can ease edge impingement on conjunctival tissue.

If the current modifications fail to solve the problem, we will capture three-dimensional images of the eyes and order a fully custom lens.

Dry Eye Management

Dry Eye Management

Addressing dryness supports ocular comfort and may lessen redness.

The patient has begun taking fish oil capsules to improve the quality of the tear film.

He applies preservative-free lubricating drops over the lenses to maintain moisture throughout the day.

We initiated Restasis twice daily in both eyes to help control underlying dry eye inflammation.

Partnering for Healthy Vision

We will continue to monitor this patient closely and refine the lens design until redness subsides. Our goal is to provide clear vision with optimal comfort, and we look forward to sharing future progress at the next visit.
