About the talk

What do you do when standard treatments no longer work? In this fast-paced, case-driven session, three specialty contact lens clinicians walk through six remarkable cases where scleral lenses changed the trajectory of care for patients with complex ocular conditions.

You'll see how thoughtful lens design, advanced optics, and methodical troubleshooting translate into measurable gains in vision and comfort — the kind of results that send patients out of the chair seeing clearly for the first time in years. Whether you fit scleral lenses every week or refer them out, you'll leave with practical strategies you can use the next day in clinic.

Real cases. Real troubleshooting. Outcomes other clinics had written off.

What you'll take away

The session is built around real cases, but every case maps to skills you can apply directly:

Key topics

  • Higher-order aberration (HOA) optics — how they limit visual quality and how advanced optics address them
  • Impression-based scleral lens technology — when a custom, impression-based design outperforms conventional fitting
  • Fitting the most challenging specialty lens cases — a repeatable approach to the hardest fits

Conditions & technologies covered

Conditions

  • Keratoconus
  • Corneal transplant (post-graft)
  • Non-healing epithelial defects
  • Irregular astigmatism & higher-order aberrations

Technologies referenced

  • Wavefront-guided optics
  • Custom & impression-based scleral lenses (including EyePrint designs)
Featured speaker

Dr. Stephanie L. Woo

OD, FAAO, FSLS

Dr. Stephanie Woo is a nationally recognized leader in specialty and scleral contact lenses — and the Insight Vision doctor this session is built around. She has devoted her career to the patients other clinics find hardest to help: irregular corneas, ocular surface disease, and post-surgical eyes.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and a Fellow and Past President of the Scleral Lens Education Society (FSLS), Dr. Woo completed her Cornea and Contact Lens residency at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. She works with advanced tools like EyePrintProsthetic, sMap 3D corneo-scleral topography, and Ovitz higher-order-aberration optics — the same technology behind several of the cases in this talk.

She lectures internationally, serves on the advisory board of the Gas Permeable Lens Institute (GPLI), writes the "Gas Permeable Lens Expert" column for Review of Contact Lenses, and is an adjunct professor at Midwestern University College of Optometry — the teaching instinct she brings to this case-based session.
