  • Comprehensive evaluation. Your doctor examines the cornea and surrounding tissue using corneal topography and anterior segment imaging to confirm you are a good candidate.
  • Impression taking. A soft, biocompatible impression material is placed over the eye for roughly one to two minutes. The process is painless, though you may feel gentle pressure. The impression captures a detailed map of the cornea, limbus, and sclera.
  • Lens design and manufacturing. The impression is sent to the EyePrint laboratory, where it is scanned and converted into a digital model. A custom scleral lens is then lathed from high-oxygen-permeable material to match the scanned contours precisely.
  • Dispensing and fine-tuning. When the finished lens arrives, your doctor evaluates the fit using a slit lamp and, if needed, anterior segment OCT. Minor adjustments may be made to optimize comfort, centration, and tear exchange beneath the lens.

Most patients receive their final lenses within a few weeks of the initial impression appointment.
